The Grand Lady

A short film about the roots, the blooms, and the gift of growing together.

At The Grand Lady, a former historic mansion outside of Austin, Texas, weddings and flower farming have become a shared act of creativity, community, and purpose. In this short film, we explore how a spontaneous path through the woods became a blooming garden—and how that garden became a sanctuary. What started as a wedding venue grew into a full-fledged flower farm, built in honor of a father, grown by hand by a young family, and sustained through deep intention.

Through the seasons, The Grand Lady has evolved into more than a venue—it’s a space for connection, memory, healing, and joy. The garden reminds us that beauty isn't just found in the bloom, but in the effort to nurture it. That to create something extraordinary, you must be present, be patient, and let go. That love, like flowers, grows when we create the right conditions.

Featured Themes

The Seed
A dream planted after a wedding became the foundation of something much bigger—a shared vision to create a place for others to celebrate love.

The Garden
Born out of a clearing in the woods and the stillness of a pandemic, the garden emerged as a space for growth, grief, wonder, and sanctuary.

The Growing
A reflection on effort, surrender, and becoming—how tending to a garden teaches us what it means to create without control, and to be changed in the process.

The Gift
More than flowers, the harvest is about sharing beauty. The garden becomes a quiet participant in life’s most joyful days—a reminder that giving is itself the reward.

Il Brutto

Il Brutto: A Short Film on Friendship, Food, and Tradition

Overview
This three-minute short film explores the heart of Il Brutto: a blend of modern Texas hospitality and traditional Italian roots. Filmed in the spirit of a vintage black-and-white spaghetti western, the story follows a coastal fishing trip between two Italian friends—New Waterloo partner Delfo Trombetta and Il Brutto Executive Chef Erind Halilaj.

Concept
The film documents a fishing adventure on the Texas coast, where Delfo and Erind set out to catch redfish. Once back on land, they prepare a traditional Italian dish using the fish they caught. That dish will be featured on the menu at Il Brutto, offering guests a literal taste of the journey.

Style & Language
Shot in black and white with a cinematic nod to spaghetti westerns, the film features Italian dialogue with English subtitles. The aesthetic and tone reflect Il Brutto's identity: traditional, handcrafted, and rooted in both Italian heritage and East Austin character.

About Il Brutto
Il Brutto is a neighborhood Italian restaurant in East Austin offering traditional, non-regional Italian fare in a 5,000-square-foot space. The restaurant is known for its daily housemade pastas, Neapolitan wood-fired pizzas, and extensive Italian wine cellar.

Il Brutto blends classic Italian culinary techniques with an East Austin sensibility—an identity that extends from the food to the space, which features handcrafted design elements and a heritage oak-shaded patio.
